A very well written article. I've always been interested in the parallelisms between the war between the states and the various conflicts in Britain during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Even at the time southerners were aware of embodying the cavalier spirit especially in figures like JEB Stuart. There's also I think a comparison to be made between the rehabilitation of the Scottish Jacobite cause and the respect and recognition that was until recently given to those who fought for the confederacy. That is of course before our culture descended into an irrational hatred of all things southern (and by extension all things American since you can't really separate the two).
